If you are interested in Wicca or witchcraft, there are some things you need to gather and a few things you need to do in order to get ready to do spellwork. Because some of the things you gather can be costly, it is a good thing to try out a few free spells before going ahead and investing in a Book of Shadows, which is a spell book and journal for witches and Wiccans.
Free spells work just as well as spells you’ll find in a Book of Shadows or get from another witch. Free spells are spells a witch has decided to give away so that others can learn the art of witchcraft and can practice the skills necessary to do the spellwork. Free spells have word components and action components, in general. In other words, there are things you must do and things you must say in order to have a spell come true. This is true of any spell—a free spell or another spell.

When you approach your free spell, you need to look at the preparations required. Do you need to cleanse your body and are essential oils required for the bathwater? Do you need to put on clean clothes? What about supplies? What kinds of herbs, candles, incense, water, salt or other tools do you need? A spell tends not to work very well without the necessary tools and materials, and they must be prepared exactly as stated on the free spell’s instructions.
Prepare your materials for your free spell. It may require you to create a magic circle in a process known as “casting a magic circle”. You cast it using rope to create a circular space, salt to define the space or just use an Athame, wand or knife to draw out a circular space that defines where your free spells will be done. You can create an altar within that space that contains your materials. When you cast a magic circle, you shouldn’t leave it or you will weaken the strength of the magic circle. You can create a door to leave the space temporarily but you need to close and seal the door when you return.
Free spells will also tell you how to prepare the materials. You may need to anoint the candle with oil infused with essential oils. You may need to light incense or put herbs in a bowl of water. Herbs can be burned along with the incense as well. You may need to have the symbol of the pentacle or pentagram on the altar in order to have the free spells be successful.
Your mindset needs to be optimum in order to make free spells work. You can’t be stressed or worried about something else and you need to believe in the power of the spell. You need to meditate in some cases so that your mindset is in order. Then you are prepared to do the spells.
When you use free spells, there will be certain words you have to say. Write them down or memorize the words so you say them exactly. It makes no difference if you write them down or memorize them as long as you say them with conviction and with the intent that something will happen.
If it is a love spell, you may need to say the name of the person you want to fall in love with you. If it is a banishing spell, you may similarly need to say the name of the person or thing you want out of your life.
Using free spells can be a good way to start out in witchcraft or Wicca. They work well and can definitely start you on your way to being good at witchcraft.
